df1 master/slave interface module
mvi69-dfcm
the inrax df1 master/slave communications module (mvi69-dfcm) is designed to allow compactlogix processors to easily interface with df1 protocol-compatible devices and hosts. many host scada packages support the df1 protocol, while devices commonly supporting the protocol include rockwell automation plcs, power monitoring equipment, as well as severla other third-party devices in the marketplace.
the module has two serial ports supporting the df1 protocol, with each port user-configurable to act as a master or as a slave. data transfer between the module and the compactlogix processor is asynchronous to the df1 network, with the module"s internal database being used to exchange data between the processor and the df1 network.
the mvi69-dfcm module is a powerful communication interface for compactlogix platform processors. developed under license from rockwell automation, the module incorporates proprietary backplane technology that enables powerful data access between the module and the compactlogix processor.
features & benefits
- single-slot - compactlogix backplane compatible
- the module is configured using the generic profile in the rslogix programming software
- supported compactlogix processors: l20/l30/l35
- the micrologix 1500 controller with lrp firmware version 6.0 or better is supported by the module
- module setup via a simple configuration text file downloaded via the configuration/debug port
- configuration data is stored in teh module"s non-volatile memory
- 60 (default), 120 and 240 word input/output data transfer lengths available, user se-lectable
- 5000 registers (words) available for transfer to and from the compactlogix processor
- multiple modules can be placed in the same rack - up to the limits of the power supply and backplane data transfer
- local and extended rack - the module will function in both the local and extended rack configurations
- high-speed data transfer across the backplane provides quick data up-date times.
applications
the mvi69-dfcm module is an ideal solution for many applications where df1 master/slave protocol connectivity needs to be added to the compactlogix platform. the dfcm solution is a powerful module designed with both master and slave support. this broad support enables the module to function as a scada sub-master, or as a powerful slave on a scada system. applications for the module are found in most industries especially in the water/wastewater, oil, gas, electrical power, and food processing.

tested hardware connections
several hardware connections have been tested by prosoft or have been customer field tested. to our knowledge, the following physical connections have been successful:
-ra panelview (full duplex point-point, dfcm as slave)
-ra processors (full/half duplex, dfcm as either master or slave)
-ra power monitors (485 half-duplex dfcm as master)
df1 slave protocol specifications
the ports on the mvi69-dfcm module can be individually configured to support the slave mode of the df1 protocol. when in slave mode, the module can accept df1 commands from a master to read/write data stored in the module?s internal registers. this data is easily transferred to the compactlogix processor?s data registers.
the df1 slave functionality supported by the module includes:
df1 slave driver | |
df1 modes | full duplex ? slave (not peer mode), multi-dr-op addressing half duplex ? polled |
configurable parameters per slave port | data table file start (file n[x] 0 to 999 data table file size (1 ? 1000 words) data table location in module (0 to 3999) |
df1 supported commands | basic command set 0x00 protected write 0x01 unprotected read 0x02 protected bit write 0x05 unprotected bit write 0x08 unprotected write plc-5 command set (0x0f) 0x00 word range write (binary address) 0x01 word range read (binary address) 0x00 word range write (ascii address) 0x01 word range read (ascii address) slc command set (0x0f) 0xa1 prot typed read w/2 addr fields 0xa2 prot typed read w/3 addr fields 0xa9 prot typed write w/2 addr fields 0xaa prot typed write w/3 addr fields |
df1 master protocol specifications
the ports on the mvi69-dfcm module can be individually configured as master ports. when configured in master mode, the dfcm module is capable of reading and writing data to remote df1 devices, enabling the compactlogix platform to act as a scada sub-master.
the df1 master functionality supported by the module includes:
df1 master driver | |
df1 modes | full-duplex - master (module generates commands), multi-dr-op addressing half-duplex - polling, slave to slave routing |
df1 supported commands | basic command set 0x00 protected write 0x01 unprotected read 0x02 protected bit write 0x05 unprotected bit write 0x08 unprotected write plc-5 command set (0x0f) 0x00 word range write (binary address) 0x01 word range read (binary address) 0x26 read-modify-write (binary address) 0x00 word range write (ascii address) 0x01 word range read (ascii address) 0x26 read-modify-write (ascii address) slc command set (0x0f) 0xa1 prot typed read w/2 addr fields 0xa2 prot typed read w/3 addr fields 0xa9 prot typed write w/2 addr fields 0xaa prot typed write w/3 addr fields 0xab prot typed write w/mask 3 addr fields |
command list | up to 100 commands per master port, each fully-configurable for function, slave address, register to/from addressing and word/bit count |
status data | error codes available on an individual command basis. in addition, a slave status list is maintained per active master port. |
polling of command list | user-configurable polling of commands, including disabled, continuous, and on change of data (write only) |
configuration/debug port functionality
the configuration/debug serial port is used to connect to a pc for configuration, status monitoring, and troubleshooting (6-foot serial cable included with product shipment). after editing on a pc, a text configuration file is downloaded and stored in the module.
once operational, the debug port allows access to detailed protocol and module status data, as well as provides a view of the communications data bytes via an on-board data analyzer.
