Leukaemia inhibitory factor (LIF) is a multifunctional cytokine, which plays a role in
growth-promotion and differentiation, regulates calcium and bone metabolism. It can induce
acute phase proteins and cause cachexia in organisms with neoplastic disorders. Moreover,
LIF participates in the induction of inflammation, and therefore represents an important
pathogenic factor of many disorders. A member of the gp130 cytokine family is involved in
osteoarticular tissue metabolism and might participate in osteogenesis. Human recombinant
leukemia inhibitory factor is expressed in E. coli.
Activity: The activity was measured in culture using the M1 murine cell line.
