The EC3 systems are designed for chemiluminscence, fluorescence, ａnd colorimetric imaging. Systems can be used with fluorescent ａnd colorimetric gels; colony plaques; microtiter plates; autoradiograph film; Northern, Southern, Western, ａnd dot blots; 1D analysis; colony counting; densitometry; membrane arrays; ａnd live plant studies.

Three types of 115V, 8W single intensity UV transilluminators are available, each with a built-in ethidium bromide emission filter. The FirstLight® FI-26X model offers a 302nm wavelength ａnd a 25x26cm （9⁷/₈x10¹/₄"） filter. The LM-26 model offers 302 ａnd 365nm wavelengths, ａnd a 21x26cm （8¹/₄x10¹/₄"） filter. The LMS-26 model offers 254, 302, ａnd 365 wavelengths, ａnd a 21x26cm （8¹/₄x10¹/₄"） filter.

Five scientific-grade, high resolution cameras are available with the EC3 systems. The Gel camera is noncooled ａnd has 1.4 megapixels, 16 bit depth, 1360x1024 resolution, ａnd 43% peak quantum efficiency. The Chemi camera is cooled to –28°C （–18.4°F） ａnd has 2.0 megapixels, 16 bit depth, 1600x1200 resolution, ａnd 56% peak quantum efficiency. The BioChemi camera is cooled to –28°C （–18.4°F） ａnd has 4.2 megapixels, 14 bit depth, 2048x2048 resolution, ａnd 5% peak quantum efficiency. The OptiChemi camera is cooled to –60°C （–76°F） ａnd has 3.2 megapixels, 16 bit depth, 2184x1472 resolution, ａnd 90% peak quantum efficiency. All cameras can be used in fluorescence, colorimetric, ａnd chemiluminescent applications, except for the gel camera, which should not be used in chemiluminescent applications. The cameras fit securely into the topside chamber of the darkroom.

The light-tight darkroom enclosure features manual exterior controls, an overhead white LED light with high/low settings, a UV safety switch ａnd timer, a full access door with a UV-blocking window, power indication lights on the top exterior, ａnd an adjustable tray for chemi blots. The transilluminator is accessed via a sliding tray at the darkroom base.

The VisionWorks® LS image acquisition ａnd analysis software is configured with the system ａnd controls the motorized zoom lens, emission filter selection, light sources, ａnd system power. It also provides tools for image capture, colony counting, ａnd analysis of gels, plates, blots, ａnd membranes. Specific capabilities include image enhancement, one-touch automated macros, extensive report generation, data export, advanced 1D lane analysis, ａnd support for 21 CFR Part 11 compliance.

The optional BioLite Multispectral Source is a 150W quartz halogen visible light source designed for use with fiber optic bundles. It supplies a directed source for the illumination of samples ａnd features a six-position mechanical dimmer permitting variable intensity. The closed optical path tightly controls the output spectrum, allowing for consistent, repeatable measurements with superior signal to noise. Each kit includes excitation ａnd emission filters, a sample tray, ａnd a visible light source via fiber optic bundles.
